Having lived and raised a family in Singapore and Europe, Cheryl is a professional counsellor and psychotherapist dedicated to working therapeutically with international and local communities. She excels at forging relationships with children, youth, individuals, and families; ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for clients to work through their emotional stressors.
Cheryl has experience working with children aged 7 to 12 years in a student care setting and has a good understanding of childhood development issues involving identity, self esteem, grief and trauma, family relationships and adjustment. Counselling has taken place through supportive conversations, mindfulness-related interventions, strength-building approaches, and emotional literacy activities.
Cheryl has experience in a private practice counselling young adults referred by the Singapore Institute of Mental Health (IMH). She has intervened in cases involving mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, adjustment, grief, and conflictual family relationships. She has implemented a range of evidence-based counselling interventions such as supportive Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Redecision Therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
Cheryl is a firm believer in the integration of Mindfulness and Psychotherapy and has found Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) particularly useful in helping her youth clientele cultivate the skill of self-compassion to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding. She has also received training with the Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) and is a trained volunteer with the Singapore Children Society’s child distress hotline.
Cheryl is a specialised Family Systems Therapist and is dedicated to helping families work through challenging issues, find ways to cope better with struggles and bring about positive changes.
