Vera is an Occupational Therapist who graduated from Curtin University of Technology (Australia) with a Bachelor of Science (Occupational Therapy). She is registered with the Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC) and is a member of the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists (SAOT). Vera has over 11 years of clinical experience.
Over the years, Vera has practised in a wide variety of settings, ranging from acute hospitals, early intervention centres, to special-ed schools and mainstream schools. She has worked with toddlers, pre-schoolers, school-aged children, adolescents and adults. She is skilled in providing school-based interventions, as well as individualized or group treatment programs for children and adolescents with varied conditions including Developmental Delays, Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorders, Dyspraxia, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Mood Disorders and other learning difficulties. She has also collaborated with Paediatrics Rheumatology Doctors regarding provision of OT pain management services for their patient population.
Vera takes on a family-centered approach with her clients as she believes that besides providing services to her clients, it is equally important to guide, support and coach their families through the therapy journey. As a mother, she understands and values the importance of consistent support from home and school in a child’s progress and the importance of implementation across different environment so that the child adapts effectively.
Vera is passionate about advocating and empowering her clients to advocate for themselves. During her time working with children with cerebral palsy in mainstream schools, she advocated and supported her clients in joining co-curricular activities (CCA) of their interest such as the guitar club, robotics club, which were deemed ‘unconventional’ and too challenging for them. The successful participation in these CCAs initiated and drove conversations and discussions with the school board on how to better support the participation of their students with special needs in future. Vera strongly believes that the society can be further educated to better understand the needs of individuals with special needs and be guided to make the appropriate accommodations to better support these individuals in the function of their everyday lives.
Outside of work, Vera is also a fitness enthusiast. She is a certified yoga teacher and personal trainer.
