Trained in both United Kingdom and Singapore, Christabel is an English-Mandarin-Hokkien trilingual psychologist who has experience supporting clients in clinical therapy and assessments in a range of institutions such as hospitals, educational institutions, social service organizations and private practice. She also speaks about healthy aging and workplace mental health in community and corporate settings.
Christabel’s practice is trauma-informed, non-judgmental, and empathetic. She has worked with clients with a variety of concerns such as neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, mood (anxiety, depression) disorders, grief and loss, behavioural or social difficulties, emotional regulation, parenting challenges, stress management and wellbeing at the workplace, suicidal ideation and self-harm, and trauma (complex trauma, PTSD).
Christabel firmly believes in an integrative approach to delivering psychotherapy attentive to her client’s needs. Her therapeutic approach is client-centred and guided by evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories, Yoga-Based Psychotherapy for Trauma (YBPG) to promote mind-body connection and mindfulness principles, Bringing Up Great Kids Parenting Program (BUGK) that encourages reflective parenting, Therapeutic Dolls for Traumatic Responsive Practice to work through trauma with play and neuro-metaphor, Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Virtual Reality (VR) and Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy (PGDT).
Christabel is also trained to administer mental capacity assessment under the Assisted Deputyship Application Program, and assessment tools such as Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, and Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised. As such, she is available for conducting diagnostic psychological and educational assessments.
Over the years, Christabel’s experience as a psychologist, former researcher and ex-national athlete, has helped her gain insight into the importance of understanding client’s concerns and needs from a biopsychosocial approach. Christabel acknowledges the uniqueness and strengths of each client and, aims to work collaboratively to encourage therapeutic growth through compassion and unconditional positive regard.
