Senior Speech and Language Therapist

Blakesley Orr

Blakesley, from the United Kingdom, has been practising as a Speech and Language Therapist in Singapore since 2018, and works with a range of clients ranging from 2 years old. He has experience in assessing and treating individuals with;

  • Speech sound disorders
  • Stuttering and Fluency Disorder
  • Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • Apraxia/Dyspraxia of Speech
  • Expressive/receptive language delay
  • Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Social communication difficulties

Blakesley collaborates closely with other professionals, such as occupational therapists, psychologists, paediatricians, and educational staff and has a good reputation with various international schools in Singapore. He values the need to liaise closely with families, educators, and other professionals to create a supportive and holistic approach to achieving the goals of his clients. He is an advocate for adapting the learning environment by implementing strategies for his client to thrive and succeed both socially and academically.

Knowing the importance for achieving goals in a functional and motivating way, Blakesley is passionate about running social communication groups for children with social communication difficulties. He provides groups such as LEGO Therapy, which has a strong evidence base for achieving goals in a fun and engaging way. He is strong believer that group therapy sessions provide a real world experience where children can apply all those previously learned skills in a functional, non-demanding, and fun environment.

Blakesley enjoys training teachers, special education teachers, and teaching assistants in applying strategies and programmes in the school setting. He is certified in conducting parent training programmes to assist with early intervention strategies for children aged 2 to 5 years old. He also believes in engaging parents in his sessions such that they are able to follow through with strategies explored in therapy and are able to initiate meaningful therapeutic intervention outside of the clinic setting.

When not at work, Blakesley enjoys cycling, swimming, learning new languages and cultures, and cooking.
