Psychotherapist & Art Psychotherapist

Tay Hongcheng (HC)

Hongcheng is a Registered Art Therapist and a professional member of the Australian, New Zealand, and Asian Creative Art Therapies Association (ANZACATA). He enjoys working collaboratively with clients through psychodynamic art therapy and integrates aspects of person-centred, relational and cognitive behaviour therapy approaches. Using art-making, play, games and storytelling, Hongcheng nurtures inclusive, non-judgmental spaces that are responsive to his clients’ needs, facilitating growth towards understanding and acceptance.

He has worked alongside children and adolescents, in individual and group therapy, supporting a range of challenges that include:

  • Navigating neurodiversity (autism, ADHD, co-occurring autism & ADHD, dyslexia, twice-exceptional)

Transitions, "Rigid” thinking, Social communication, Autistic/ADHD burnout

  • Emotional regulation and expression

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Academic stress and motivation

  • Social relationships, including bullying

  • Relational trauma

Hongcheng has provided neurodiversity-affirming art therapy services at an autism activity centre, local mainstream schools, a non-profit organisation and a counselling centre. Additionally, as a trained Circle of Security Parenting facilitator, he supports parents in strengthening parent-child relationships and navigating challenges as a family.

Hongcheng's passion for empowering and supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families grew from his fruitful volunteer experiences at special education and community play settings. He advocates for a compassionate and inclusive understanding of neurodiversity in homogeneous environments through presentations at Nanyang Technological University and the World Art Therapy Conference.
